The Reserve Bank today has officially keep interest rates steady at an record low of 0.1%. Governor Philip Lowe said the economic recovery was “well under way†and stronger than had been expected.
The Australian dollar is now at 0.7759 against the US dollar, and 5.0200 against the onshore RMB and 5.0221 against the offshore RMB.

According to data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) at 11:30 this morning, the CPI for the fourth quarter of 2020 is 0.9%, and the CPI for the whole of 2020 is also 0.9%. Both are higher than the expected 0.7%. The biggest increase was in tobacco prices, which rose by 10.9%. The biggest drop was the price of electricity, which fell by 7.5%.
The Australian dollar rose slightly and then fell. The Australian dollar is now at 0.7754 against the US dollar. The Australian dollar is now at 5.0134 against the onshore RMB and 5.0169 against the offshore RMB.

According to data from Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for December 2020 dropped to 6.6%. 30,100 Australians found work in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This result is 0.1 better than market expectation 6.7%. Australian Dollar slightly raised after the unemployment rate was posted.
The Australian dollar against the US dollar is now at 0.7775. The Australian dollar is currently quoted at 5.0183 against the onshore RMB and 5.0225 against the offshore RMB.

Australia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate unexpectedly was at 6.8% in November 2020, which is lower than market consensus and October's figure of 7%. This was the lowest unemployment rate since August, as the economy emerged gradually from the COVID-19 hit.
Not unexpectedly, Victoria contributed for the majority (80 per cent) of the increase in employment in November.
The Australian dollar against the US dollar is now at 0.7591. The Australian dollar is currently quoted at 4.9616 against the onshore renminbi and 4.9397 against the offshore RMB.

Due to the booming global steel market, iron ore prices have continued to rise since March this year. On Monday, December 7th, China's main iron ore futures contract exceeded RMB 990 a tonne, a seven year record high. Strong iron ore price growth supported the Australian dollar exchange rate. The Australian dollar against the US dollar is now at 0.7415. The Australian dollar is currently quoted at 4.8432 against the onshore renminbi and 4.8313 against the offshore RMB.
